Award-Winning Journalist Soledad O’ Brien and Rosie Perez to be Honored at
National Leadership Conference along with other Latina Leaders

Gathering Celebrates Contributions of Hispanic Women, Hundreds of National and Local Leaders Attending

(Washington, DC) The National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) will pay tribute to the achievements and contributions of exceptional Hispanic women who have served their communities through its prestigious Mujer Awards, presented at the Gala closing of its 2009 Executive Leadership Training Conference this November 5-6, Albuquerque, NM.

NHLI is the premier executive leadership organization preparing Latinas for positions of national and international influence, public policy impact and to contribute to the advancement of the Hispanic community. Its mission is to develop Hispanas as ethical leaders through training, professional development, relationship building and community activism.

Entertainer and community activist Rosie Perez will receive the Chair;s Award. She joins notable Latina leaders, Patricia Diaz Dennis, a three-time presidential appointee and corporate executive and Emma Sepulveda, Ph.D., Professor at the University of Nevada, and an award winning author, who are being honored the National and Regional Mujer Awards.

Additionally, NHLI will honor award-winning journalist Soledad O’ Brien and host of CNN’s Latino in America with on Thursday, November 5, for her ongoing commitment to the promotion of issues important to the Hispanic community. Following the award ceremony, Soledad O’Brien will make a special appearance at a post-screening of Latino in America documentary hosted by NHLI at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

NHLI’s annual conference brings together more than 600 leaders from across the country for two-days of cutting-edge leadership development, educational and inspirational keynotes and workshops facilitated by top- level experts and national leaders, as well as exceptional networking opportunities with professional Latinos from across the country.

This year’s conference theme—Our Time in History—reflects these important times when more and more Latinas are advancing to significant positions of leadership and national influence as well as the richness of the conference host state’s history and role Hispanic women have played.
