Leading with People – People Centered Leadership

Wednesday, April 29, 2010

No woman is an island! In spite of some of the traditional leadership myths, we all know (especially as Latinas!) that NO ONE does it alone. Success is a group effort, and gathering the right support around you, building your team, and inspiring people by truly connecting with them is a key trait of powerful leaders.

The most powerful leaders inspire, motivate, connect and support their teams to be the best THEY can be. How can we all learn to be a better people-centered leader, whether it is at home with our kids, or in the Boardroom of Fortune 500 companies?

During this webinar, Aurelia will talk to participants about how we connect with others within our own leadership style (as well as venture outside our own style and meet people where they are), suggest some exercises to learn what communication barriers might be holding us back, and teach us how to lead people from their core.

The Three Ps of Leadership (Passion, Preparation, Perseverance)

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Great leaders pursue activities that truly move them, for which they have a deep internal drive and spark, and something they believe about strongly. This *passion* is a flame that energizes leaders when their attention is flagging or when they encounter obstacles.

Similarly, great leaders also prepare and plan to ensure they accomplish their goals for the best possible outcome.

Finally, when there are roadblocks, stumbles or even brick walls, true leaders know that part of the journey is continuing forward in spite of these problems.

During this webinar, Aurelia Flores provided guidance on how Latina leaders use these three Ps (passion, preparation and perseverance) in their own lives, as well as offer ideas on how we can implement these qualities in our own! This was Part 2 of a 3-part series.

Beyond the Search for Life/Work Balance: Having the Life You Want

Wednesday, November 18 @ 1pm eastern

Sponsored by Nissan and facilitated by Nanci Luna Jiménez, an internationally-recognized trainer and Certified Professional Facilitator, Beyond the Search for Life/Work Balance: Having the Life You Want provided unique insights into clarifying and prioritizing the life we want while we stop wasting time looking for a balance that doesn’t exist.

In today’s world, we are expected to be all things to all people.  We love our family; we are passionate about our work.  Our down-time is precious—more so because it feels so rare.

The work/life balance webinar made the participants know how to better manage time or be more organized.  What if the question weren’t one of balance but rather having the life we want?  What if the answer is not outside us at all, but rather inside us? What if the key was not a new tool, technique, gadget or software, but instead a process of getting clear about what it is we really do want our lives to look like?

So often the feelings of not being or doing enough are centered in a place of inadequacy—our own.  So often the feelings of not having enough time to do what we want is that we aren’t clear about what that is—so we are pulled into what others want for us, often with the best of intentions.

Health Care Reform: What It Means to Women and Latinos

Wednesday, October 28 @ 1pm eastern

Sponsored and facilitated by AARP, the webinar focused on the implications of health care reform for women and Latinos. On the heels of recent developments in Congress and with misinformation circulating rampantly, NHLI and AARP provided information to clarify some of those myths and addressed questions from community members about health care reform.

The interactive platform allowed attendees to ask questions and to become better informed on the reform proposals being considered in Congress.

The webinar was presented by Nora Super, Director of Federal Government Relations, Health and Long-Term Care at AARP. Nora Super has more than 20 years of experience working in Washington, DC with a notable background in a wide range of health policy issues, including Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, ERISA, and other federal and state health programs. Having worked in academia and in the private sector, she brings invaluable knowledge and experience to Health Care Reform: What it Means to Women and Latinos.
