Advancing Your Career and Working Towards That Big Promotion

Facilitated by Victoria Aguilar, NHLI 1996 alumna
Founder and consultant of The AR Group, LLP

September 22 at 1:00 pm (east)

If you were not able to attend, click here to download a PowerPoint™ presentation of the webinar.

Too often the distinction between "job" and "career" is either blurred or entirely lost. To advance in one’s career, it is critical to remember that because "jobs" are given they also can be taken away — often by forces beyond our control. Your "career" belongs only to you and that means that you get to decide everything about it!

You can take control of your career when you recognize your career as your 'business' and in doing so, you are better able to think in terms of investing in yourself and setting goals and objectives based on that premise.

Through the Advancing Your Career and Working Towards that Big Promotion webinar will help you create a roadmap towards the future you envision. The webinar is free thanks to the support of Merck.

This webinar will provide an outline for drafting your own Strategic Career Plan so that you can market yourself like the #1 product that you are.

Victoria Aguilar will discuss some of the critical things that must be confronted in order to develop an effective plan for you, including:

  • Learning to take a step back to objectively assess your career trajectory
  • Getting the education and/or training necessary to rise up the ladder in your field
  • Building a platform or reputation that is not easily ignored
  • Developing you own 'effective' style
  • Dealing smartly with roadblocks
  • Setting stretch goals
  • Locating effective mentors
  • … and more

You will leave the webinar with the tools to develop your own career strategic plan and the framework to reflect on and continuously build from the foundations you lay.

About Victoria

Victoria Aguilar established The AR Group after more than 17 years of providing legal, human resource, and compliance counsel to Fortune 500 companies including GE, American Family Insurance, and US WEST. She also served as the VP of HR and General Counsel to a 2000+ union/non union employee construction firm with operations in four states, and managed HR and Legal for two high-tech start-up enterprises experiencing rapid growth.

Licensed to practice law in Colorado and Minnesota, Victoria is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and is a member of the American Bar Association and The Society of Human Resource Managers.

As a result of these experiences, Victoria recognized the need in the middle market for sophisticated and strategic legal counsel, HR support, and compliance management. This recognition was in part borne out of her professional experience as well as out of her recognition of increased regulation and penalty enforcement by government agencies in conjunction with employee and contract management. A believer in proactive and ethical risk management, Victoria brings top-tier services, utilizing unique, highly competitive, and enticing pricing strategies to the middle market.

As an active member of the Hispanic community, Victoria sought and received certification for The AR Group as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise from the Colorado Department of Transportation (DBE Certificate # 6412), obtained certification as a Minority Business Enterprise through the Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council, and is the process of securing 8(a) and SDB certification through the Federal Government. In addition in 1996, Victoria was selected as one of twenty women from across the country to participate in the National Hispana Leadership Institute’s executive training which is focused on preparing Latinas as leaders in an effort to help break the ‘glass ceiling.’ Locally, she was saluted in 2008 by The Excelsior Youth Center at their Annual Gala Event as one of five “Triumphant Women” who have achieved success despite facing significant challenges in life. Victoria serves on the Board of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Metro Denver.

Educationally, Victoria holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Boston College (Summa Cum Laude), where she was also awarded the distinction of “Scholar of the College.” After BC, Ms. Aguilar attended The University of Michigan Law School where she graduated in 1992.
